Volunteers help stem spread of invasive plants

The River Ray in Swindon, the By Brook in west Wiltshire and the Salisbury Avon and its tributaries are now in a far healthier state thanks to the enthusiasm of volunteers who have been hard at work over the summer surveying for outbreaks of the invasive non-native plant Himalayan balsam, and then helping to remove it from the river banks.

Last week a team of volunteers turned out to plant thousands of bluebell bulbs at The Devenish nature reserve, near Durnford, Salisbury, in order that it will look ‘blue-min’ marvellous come the spring.

Baby Fair comes to Swindon

Mums, dads and little-ones are invited to come to a free show for bump, baby and beyond at the Steam Museum, Swindon, on Thursday 8th and Friday 9th October, 10am-3pm. The Baby Fair, organised by the Trust and the Real Nappy Campaign, will showcase the best Swindon has to offer young families.
