Energy efficiency is good for your health

Warm by fire, Energy Saving Trust

You could live a more comfortable life by heating and insulating your home more efficiently. In addition to feeling warmer you could help prevent some of the more serious health implications related to homes that are too cold including:

* Respiratory (breathing) illness: thought to be more likely at below 16C (61F).

* Heart attacks and strokes: at temperatures below 12C (54F) it has been found that there is an increased risk of heart attack or stroke in vulnerable people.

* Hypothermia: can occur if a vulnerable person (particularly the elderly or very young) is exposed to a temperature of less than 6C (43F) for two hours or more.

Overheating, on the other hand, can increase the risk of cot death. Babies can overheat because of too much bedding or clothing, or because the room is too hot.
