Building Bridges is a partnership of over 20 organisations, led by Community First, that has come together to deliver the Building Better Opportunities Programme across Swindon and Wiltshire, and through our partners, we have access to a wide variety of training from basic Maths, English & IT to start up courses on self-employment.

We have just secured funding to continue the successful programme which we have been running in both north and south Wiltshire over the last 3 years. The aim is to reach the people furthest from work and try to get them at least one step closer, for some this might be a training programme but ultimately one step closer could lead to a job.

To be eligible they need to be 18 years or older, not currently working, they can be on a zero hour’s contract but must not have had income for the last 3 months and must have the legal right to work in the UK.

We will be running our new project from our Devizes site and local reserves, it will be a 12 week programme running 3 days a week Monday – Wednesday, 9:30am – 2:45pm, some reserve days may be longer. There will be an opportunity to develop social skills whilst carrying out craft activities and resilience training, we discuss your development prepare personal action plans and any training needs.

We will be running minibus pick up’s from, Melksham, Trowbridge & Westbury, those outside these areas can bus in to collection points to be picked up, there is also a good bus service from most other locations to Devizes, in all cases where a bus is required we refund the bus fare with proof of a ticket.

We can deliver a wide range of resilience training, Goal setting, CV skills, Interview Technique, Job search skills etc within a structured format over the programme.

What is the Building Bridges programme?

The Building Bridges programme is a partnership of organisations which supports people across Swindon and Wiltshire who are facing significant challenges in being able to develop their skills, access education or move towards the world of work. Taking part in the programme is entirely voluntary and all of our advice and support is offered free of charge.

We work with people on a one-to-one basis to help them address the challenges and barriers they are facing and develop their own personalised plan to help them achieve their goals whilst working within a small group.

We understand that there are many different factors which affect whether people feel ready to take the next step forwards - this is why we also offer specialist help and support in a number of areas including developing physical and mental wellbeing, accessing debt and financial advice and help with issues such as transport and childcare.
