Maurice Avent
Trustee and Chair of the Conservation Committee

He was born in 1943 and spent his formative years on a Cotswold farm before attending grammar school in Wimbledon, completing a Civil Engineering degree at Manchester University and gaining an MICE with Balfour Beatty. A wide ranging career followed, culminating in setting up his own construction company specialising in installing high pressure pipelines in 1989. The business operated throughout the UK with additional major projects in Africa.

His early days in the countryside stimulated a love of all wildlife and a fascination for birds and later butterflies and moths engendered a desire to protect the environment.  Maurice was a  Trustee for ten years and national Chairman for three years of the Butterfly Conservation Society before joining the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust Council.

He is honoured to have been able to invest in West Yatton Down,  a Site of Special Scientific Interest in the Wiltshire Cotswolds and has enjoyed very many happy hours photographing, scrub clearing, transecting, farming and simply relaxing in such a beautiful place.
