A sustainable future for wildlife and people
See below for Watch events.
Wildlife Watch groups give children aged 5 -13 the opportunity to discover local wildlife. We provide practical activities like bat walks, pond dipping, creating homes for wildlife and campaigning to protect our environment. Children have lots of fun being nature detectives and making new friends whilst making a real difference to wildlife in Wiltshire.
This well-established group has been running since April 2015 and is led by the enthusiastic Penny Fleet and Sarah Beard. The main base for the group is River Bourne Community Farm, where families have had plenty of opportunities to explore, walk along the stream and meet some of the furry inhabitants! To add a bit of extra interest Penny and Sarah sometimes run sessions at other location around Salisbury including Old Sarum hillfort and our Devenish nature reserve. The children have also been treated to a tractor ride and guided tour of Parsonage Down nature reserve with the farmer there.
A small charge is made for activities and Watch members receive a discount. Activities are promoted on our website and through our monthly enews. Booking is usually required as we are often oversubscribed.
All our Wildlife Watch groups are supported by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. The groups operate within a monitored framework of child welfare and safety and all leaders undergo a thorough recruitment process to check their suitability to work with young people. Groups meetings are usually held once a month for a couple of hours during weekends or evenings. Group sizes and age ranges vary between groups
