About us
Founded in 1962, today Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is the leading charity in Wiltshire and Swindon working to achieve nature’s recovery and connect people with nature.
With over 40 nature reserves covering over 1,372 hectares (c. 3,392 acres), the Trust protects some of Wiltshire’s most important meadows, downland, woods, fen and valuable chalk habitats. Most of our nature reserves have open public access, allowing people to benefit from nature through enhanced wellbeing and learning opportunities.
The Trust is supported by a growing community of more than 12,000 members and almost 3,000 volunteers, and employs over 150 people. Partnership is our watchword, and our Strategy commits us to collaborating with farmers and strategic partners to achieve nature’s recovery in the wider landscape beyond our own reserves.
Our Work
Aligning with our current strategy, our work is split across two goals:
Goal 1: Nature Recovery
From our iconic chalk streams to precious grasslands, from urban ponds to ancient woodlands, we are delivering ambitious collaborative projects that restore habitats at scale. We’re working across 40+ reserves and beyond to provide vital refuges for wildlife. Our chalk streams and grasslands are globally rare habitats, and their protection is a priority.
Goal 2: Connecting People with Nature
We believe that strengthening the connection between our communities and the natural environment is essential for the recovery of our wildlife and the wellbeing of people. We have seen how engagement with nature can transform lives, improve health, and build a powerful, collective voice for nature’s future.
Our Collective Impact
Our impact is a celebration of what we can achieve when we work together. The numbers below represent countless hours of dedication from our volunteers, partnership working across many organisations, the generosity of our supporters and funders, and the unwavering commitment of our team over the past year. They tell a story of habitats protected, species safeguarded, and communities connected with the benefits of nature.

The annual impact report includes our financial summary for the year, as well as case studies highlighting our partnerships and projects.
Our full financial statements are uploaded to the Charity Commission website following our AGM.
