About the event

Join this bat walk led by Ilene Sterns and Phil Atkin, members of the Wiltshire Bat Group.

Bat detectors will be provided for the group.

Attendees should dress for the weather (wellies recommended) and bring a torch, insect repellent and water. If attendees have their own bat detector, they should bring it along. We will meet outside the Dragonfly Café shortly before 8pm.

Sunset is at 8.35pm on the 4 May. The earlier bats (e.g., noctules) will be flying before dark, so we want to be ready for those. Daubenton's bats do not appear until about 45 minutes after sunset so we will gather near the lake to look for those towards the end of the walk.

Please note: If it is raining on 4 May, the date will be postponed to 5 May if that day stays dry.

We will begin with a brief H&S talk and an explanation of how to use the bat detectors. We will also provide an overview of UK bats, focusing on the bats we will expect to see on the walk. If we detect any bats while we are standing near the café, we will remain in that area for a while before heading towards the more wooded areas. The walk will take in a couple of different types of habitat before we return to the lake to watch the Daubenton's bats hunting over the water.

Children are welcome but must be accompanied by adults. No dogs, please.
