Green Lane Wood awarded £12,000 as part of Tesco Bags of Help initiative

We are pleased to announce that Wiltshire Wildlife Trust's Green Lane Wood Nature Reserve has been awarded £12,000 as part of the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. Voting by the public took place in three Tesco stores in Trowbridge between 31 October and 13 November.

We'd like to thank all those who voted for Green Lane Wood.

What we will be doing with the award

This award will enable us to improve access to this popular community woodland by:

  • Improving the pathway leading in and around the site. This will allow safer access into the woods for visitors. It will also be beneficial to the wildlife at the ancient wood by preventing damage to the woodland flora and disturbance to the wildlife caused by walkers avoiding the waterlogged pathway;
  • Adding new interpretation boards and signage, helping visitors to appreciate the special biodiversity and features of this ancient woodland;
  • Improving facilities at the reserve by adding benches for visitors to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet of this beautiful community woodland;
  • Adding new notice boards providing greater information about the activities that we have going on in the woodland;
  • Providing a new wide access ramp enabling easier access to the reserve.

Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help initiative in hundreds of regions across England Wales. The scheme sees three community groups and projects in each of these regions awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 - all raised from the 5p bag charge.
