Wild Roots to Recovery

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and the Defence Gardens Scheme are launching Wild Roots to Recovery - a new 10-week nature-based wellbeing programme for veterans and the armed forces community, based at the Harbour Garden in Trowbridge.

This supportive programme offers the opportunity to spend regular time outdoors, connect with others, and take part in horticulture, practical conservation and nature-based activities designed to support wellbeing, confidence, and recovery.

Sessions will include a mixture of:

  • Seasonal tasks within the forest garden with a focus on wildlife friendly gardening and habitat creation
  • Practical outdoor skills
  • Green woodworking
  • Nature connection and mindful activities
  • Opportunities for shared learning

Participants will also be invited to a workshop session in August, helping to build practical skills and confidence in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

The programme is open to armed forces veterans who may benefit from spending time in nature, building routine, and connecting with others through shared activity.
