We are delighted to announce the purchase of Morningside Farm meadows, near Royal Wootton Bassett. The site will now be protected and managed as one of our public nature reserves, ensuring that the meadow’s outstanding wildlife can be enjoyed by both current and future generations.

After a sustained campaign of fundraising attracted swift and generous support from individual donors and Trust members to put down a deposit, we recently secured substantial funding from Biffa Award, enabling the full purchase amount to be secured.

With just 1,100 hectares of floodplain meadows like these remaining across the whole of Britain, the 25 hectares at Morningside Farm represent a nationally important resource, of critical importance for the wealth of plants, butterflies, birds, and pollinating insects that are associated with this rare and threatened hay meadow habitat.

We now intend to manage the site as a nature reserve for wildlife, offering opportunities for the public to get involved in the practical management of the site, as well as biological recording of the species found in the meadows. We'll improve public access and provide resources for the study of meadow management, grassland habitats, species and the role of pollinators, as well as for various Forest School activities.
