Western Forest Tree Planting Offer: Expressions of Interest Now Open

Western Forest Tree Planting Offer: Expressions of Interest Now Open

Launched in 2025, the Western Forest is the nation’s first new national forest for a generation, working to restore and reconnect a mosaic of woodland landscapes across Wiltshire, Somerset and Gloucestershire, in a way that works for nature, people, and the rural economy. We’re now looking for landholders who want to play their part in this pioneering project.

We are taking expressions of interest from landholders interested in creating new woodland or introducing more diverse tree planting, who can be supported by us through the Western Forest programme.

At this stage, we are looking to hear from landholders whose land falls within the Western Forest priority areas. Larger proposals of more than 20 hectares may also be considered outside of the priority area.

Projects eligible for consideration include:

  • Woodland creation projects of at least 0.5 hectares
  • Trees outside woodland projects, including agroforestry, hedgerows and in-field tree planting, covering at least 2 hectares of gross area

Offering you a fully supported service

The programme offers you full support to help plan, implement, and manage your project. The support on offer includes:

  • A farm walk to discuss opportunities for integrating trees on your land
  • Tailored planting design and agroforestry options
  • Advice on grants, funding and the benefits trees can bring to your business
  • Support with the completion of grant applications and regulatory paperwork
  • Support through planting to help ensure successful establishment

Ready to explore the options available?

If you are considering tree planting and would like to explore the opportunities available, we'd be delighted to hear from you. Registering an expression of interest is a chance to explore what might be possible on your land, with no commitment to take a project forward.

Please get in touch with the Trust's Ecology Lead, Daisy Huxter (daisyh@wiltshirewildlife.org), to discuss your ideas and find out whether your land is eligible.
