Starting at the end of July , contractors will be carrying out the carefully planned removal of select trees and shrubs at the Town Bridge site and other points along the river.
Why is this work taking place?
The tree removal is necessary for two reasons:
- Several of the affected trees are suffering from Ash Dieback—a severe fungal disease that weakens trees, causing branches to drop and rendering them unsafe in public spaces. Removing them now prevents future hazards along the busy river corridor.
- This work clears the necessary space for the final phase of the River Biss improvement scheme, which will transform the Town Bridge and Viewing Platform (area by Stone Mill, Adjacent to The Shires and River Biss) sites into accessible, space for everyone to enjoy.
All works have been reviewed and approved by Wiltshire Council as part of the formal planning process (Planning Reference: PL/2024/03220) and (Planning Reference: : PL/2024/03221 for the viewing platform)
