Wiltshire Wildlife Trust has a training placement available with the Water Team from 6th August 2018 for an enthusiastic and highly motivated person interested in a career in wildlife conservation.

  • River Restoration and other Freshwater Wildlife Conservation (12 months based in Devizes with county-wide training)

The position is aimed at people interested in pursuing a career in River Restoration and Freshwater Wildlife Conservation and looking to gain experience and skills in the chosen field. No formal educational qualifications or previous training is required but applicants will be expected to be enthusiastic for the chosen role, show a desire and dedication to learn new skills and gain experience and demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team.

The post will be principally based in Devizes at Wiltshire Wildlife Trust HQ and will involve time spent on rivers, nature reserves and natural sites across the county.

Please note the training will involve both desk-based office work and practical work outside in a range of weather conditions.

Accommodation is not offered as part of the position and the trainee will be responsible for arranging their own accommodation and transport to work bases.

A bursary of £750 a month will be paid to the trainee with a further completion payment also payable.

There is no salaried position offered on completion of the programme.

River Restoration

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s Water Team is one of the leading groups looking after and improving freshwater habitats throughout the county.

Working closely together with Environment Agency, Rivers Trusts, Natural England and other stakeholders a significant number of river restoration and habitat improvement projects are prepared and delivered each year.

A lot of this work is delivered through volunteers from local communities, but if necessary specialist contractors are hired to deliver the designs.

Freshwater habitat and species ecology and identification skills (to include water voles, otters)

First aid and health and safety training relevant to the role
