Meet the Judges
We are delighted to have a panel of incredible judges who will use their expertise to select the winning images from the shortlist.
Nick Upton, Wildlife Photographer & Filmmaker
Nick Upton is an award-winning wildlife photographer, filmmaker and PhD biologist. After 25 years in wildlife television production for the BBC and others, his photographs now tell powerful conservation stories and capture intriguing and often overlooked wildlife behaviours. He's documented major UK projects from the reintroduction of beavers, cranes and bustards to the protection of hedgehogs, swifts and other Wiltshire wildlife. He’s won major prizes at the British Wildlife Photography and Bird Photographer of the Year Awards, is much published and supplies many images to major conservation bodies. (or to the Wildlife Trusts and other major conservation bodies.)
Joanna Richards, Head of Communications & Marketing, The Wildlife Trusts
As the Head of Communications for the national office, Joanna helps to shape the voice of The Wildlife Trusts movement across the UK. She has a deep understanding of the power of visual storytelling in motivating people to take action for nature. With years of experience leading national campaigns and brand communications, Joanna knows what makes an image compelling, memorable, and effective in championing our natural world. She is passionate about photography that not only showcases wildlife's beauty but also conveys a narrative that can inspire positive change.
Aby Davies, Senior Marketing and Communiations Officer, National Trust
Aby is Senior Marketing and Communications Officer at Lacock Abbey, where Henry Talbot and his wife Constance were experimenting with early photography in the 1830s, with Henry inventing the negative there in 1835. Aby has loved photography ever since her school darkroom days, and now enjoys working somewhere where she can see photographic creativity every day; whether that’s people following in the Talbot’s footsteps with analogue cameras, nature-lovers snapping snowdrops, or families sharing days out on their phones. Aby worries about AI in the arts and the pursuit of ‘perfection’; for her, an impactful image is one capturing the truth of a moment.
